AND AGAIN I DREAM | Screening and Q&A

Monday, October 5 | 6:30 pm

Busboys and Poets, 2021 14th St NW, Washington, DC, 20009

Registration required

In partnership with WPFW and Aubin Pictures.

Join us for a screening of AND AGAIN I DREAM, followed by a conversation with directors Catherine Gund and Mariah Norman, Jade Keith (film participant, Ivy Young’s niece), Kojo Nnamdi (journalist, radio host), and Sharon Farmer (photographer). Moderated by Katea Stitt (Program Director at WPFW).

We’ll host a warm reception after.

Host committee includes James Early, Bill Gaskins, Sharon Farmer, Niani Kilkenny, Beverly Price, Sheldon Scott, Donna Donato, and Kathy Acey.

Ivy Young (1947-2023), a journalist and organizer, knows that mainstream society will not preserve her story after she’s gone, so she rallies friends and her niece Jade – a history teacher whom she inspired with her vision and her grit – to defy the past for the sake of a shared future of resilience, compassion, and love. Together with history student Mariah, and lifelong friend Catherine, they explore Ivy’s archive of experience, illuminating her life across queer generations, forging a bridge between memory, activism, and identity.

Off the Mall Tours and the Rainbow History Project are offering this amazing tour in partnership! The U Street Corridor was known as “Black Broadway” in its heyday of the early 20th Century. From the Prohibition Era to the Civil Rights Movement, it was also the center for social justice and fringe movements that fought to bring more opportunity for marginalized groups, including an active Queer community that was associated with the Harlem Renaissance, the Pansy Craze, underground crime worlds, and the wide world of entertainment.

More info:
This 1.5 hour walking tour begins at Howard Theater and ends at Thurst Lounge, DC’s first queer black-owned bar. Rainbow History Project’s mission is to collect, preserve and promote the history and culture of the LGBTQ community in metropolitan Washington, D.C.
